An IP Team in Buliisa, Uganda led by Oyergiu Jonita (third from left) discovered that many girls skip school during their menstrual periods. They had a resource -- Jonita's tailoring shop, where they began to make reusable sanitary pads. In many parts of Africa, a movement to raise awareness of this critical issue of girls' education and health has grown. In fact, Shilla Adyero our regional coordinator of Nwoya District, Uganda, teaches people how to do ths.
Jonita's IP Team recently distributed kits that contained the reusable pads, a bottle of liquid soap and underwear to the local schools. As they do that, they also take the opportunity to teach students about sexual health, which has already resulted in a reduction of teenage pregnancies.
